On Friday evening, 18 of March 2011, another Encounter with Photography
took place in the Cinema Theatre in Michalowice. This time Athanor Group's
honourable guest was Ms Ewa Andrzejewska – a photographer well known in Poland
as well as abroad.
Ms Andrzejewska brought with her a lot of “souvenirs” - this is how she
speaks about her photographs. It is because each of them carries memories of
the place where Ewa saw the subtle dance of light she wanted to capture
forever. Such perception of surrounding and time demands a special kind of
sensitivity and passion in order to make them into unity.
Andrzejewska uses a large format camera and makes contact prints,
sometimes also uses enlargement. Ewa likes to give her photographs sepia tint,
which, covering the images in warm tone, perfectly suits the light reflections
as well as emphasises the commemorative character of the images.
During the evening we could see a lot of images of cities – Jelenia Gora
and Krakow, among others, and also mountain landscapes. Ms Andrzejewska takes
photographs also of people, but the nature she leaves alone, undisturbed by
even the minute presence of a human being. What makes it even more interesting
is the fact that the cities by Andrzejewska are also empty, with no man's trace
at all - perhaps that is why her images are quiet, calm and consonant. In the
world, which Andrzejewska shows us, clearly visible are her rich soul and
tender heart.
